It is with great pleasure that we announce the new editor for Climber magazine. Otley based climber and journalist, Andy McCue will join the magazine at the end of this month. He brings with him years of journalistic experience and a growing passion for climbing.
When people get married it is usual to buy them toasters, or matching bath towels, isn't it? When Andy got married, he and his wife were given a beginner's climbing course at Brunel University. Andy took inspiration from his instructor who quickly introduced him to the joys of bold trad leading on the polished Avon Gorge limestone. Showing true grit and determination, Andy went on to become a very competent VS leader, now pushing onto HVS. He has climbed in the Peak District, the Lakes, North Wales, Southern sandstone, and sea cliffs in Cornwall and Swanage. If pushed though, he will say that his heart lies with the big multi-pitch routes on mountain crags – a recent tick of The Crack at Gimmer being a highlight.
Over the last couple of winters, Andy has tackled Scottish winter climbing at the Northern Corries and Glen Coe, he has also done ice climbing in La Grave. He makes time for some hot rock trips to Europe, clipping bolts on the Costa Blanca and plans to climb in the Alps and even further a field, fancies a crack at big wall climbing in Yosemite.
