The existing Beacon Climbing Centre located in the old Marconi building in Ceunant was opened in 1994 and at the time of completion was one of only a handful of large scale dedicated indoor climbing centres operating in the UK. Attracting thousands of visits every year, Beacon has consistently offered high quality bouldering and roped climbing facilities for climbers of all ages and abilities for over 17 years.

With the increased popularity of both indoor and outdoor climbing, Beacon Climbing has been looking to replace the existing centre with a much larger facility for some time, and these plans can now finally be realised with the acquisition last week of the huge Barcud Film Studio building on the Cibyn Estate in Caernarfon. Offering much easier access and extensive car parking, the new building features a large open plan design capable of accommodating a huge expanse of climbing including roped walls up to 17m high.

Beacon Climbing has been involved in the design and construction of numerous innovative climbing wall projects nationwide through their manufacturing subsidiary Beacon Climbing Walls Ltd, and this extensive experience will be fully utilised in turning the defunct Barcud building into one of the UK's premier indoor climbing facilities.

Due for completion in June 2012, the new climbing centre will also feature the UK's first CrazyClimb installation, a Beacon Climbing Walls product that offers imaginative, weird and completely wacky climbing challenges for both adults and children!
