The first big Alpkit Shakeout Adventure Festival went really well last year. The weekend's activities included climbing (with coaching sessions from world class climbers), mountain biking (with guided riding around some of the Peak's best trails by Ed Oxley), walking, canoeing, lectures, films, bands and stories round the campfire. "It wall all we could have hoped for," Nick Smith, one of Alpkit directors, said after the event. “We couldn't have asked for a better crowd, everyone just got into the vibe of the event.”
- Planned events and entertainment will be announced on the Alpkit website over the coming months.
- You can buy tickets here: alpkit.com/bigshakeout.
- And watch a video of last year's highlights in this UKC News Item: WITH VIDEO: Big Shakeout 2011.
Tickets include camping, all evening entertainment and access to a host of free workshops, demos and seminars. By day, free on site activities will include everything from bike maintenance, dry tooling and avalanche rescue techniques to camp cooking, circus skills and dry stone walling. In the evening the festival's campground area will buzz with live music, films and lectures.
If you want to try something completely new, learn the specific skills of a new discipline, or simply do more or do it better, you will have the opportunity to enrol in the 'Alpkit School of Adventure', which will offer short, affordable courses throughout the weekend in a huge variety of sports and pursuits. These will be delivered by the instructors of Thornbridge Outdoors, elite athletes and coaches at the top of their game. 'Once in a lifetime' special courses and experiences will also be revealed closer to the event.
After a long day enjoying your favourite activity, an exciting course or simply a mellow day's walking in the Peak District, you'll be able to head back to the Thornbridge campground, grab an alpine style meal and a beer from the bar and enjoy live music, films and a host of other activities sure to keep the festival vibe going late into the night.
