Earlier this year Petzl discovered that exerting excessive force on the fully extended handle of the GriGri 2 can cause internal damage, such that the handle may become stuck in the open position.
Petzl is not aware of any accidents resulting from this but has increased the mechanical strength of the handle on all GriGri 2s since serial number 11137.
On the 20th June 2011 we ran this Outdoor Industry News Item at UKClimbing.com: RECALL for Replacement: Petzl GriGri 2
We have just got this update from Roger Chaldecott, Customer Relations Manager at Lyon Equipment
Lyon Equipment have replaced thousands of GriGri 2's but are happy to replace more - so send yours back!
Shops have started receiving the new GriGri 2 so please check your serial number - if the unique identification number is higher than 11137 don't send it back as it's already the improved design.
Did You Send A GriGri 2 Back With No Name?
Lyon Equipment has received a couple of GriGri 2 without any information so if you sent yours back and haven't received a replacement then write to GriGri2@Lyon.co.uk saying when you sent it, what colour, and describing the packaging (if by some miracle you know the number that'd be even better).
All the best,
Roger Chaldecott
Customer Relations Manager
If you haven't sent your GriGri 2 back to Lyon, instructions of how to do so are at: RECALL for Replacement: Petzl GriGri 2
