The plus and minus suffixes are a peculiarity of the Lakes selected guide. Unneccessary subdivision IMHO.

The pluses and minuses are just saying that the climb is hard or easy for the grade, nothing more. So a HVS- would be a good target to break into the grade. Leopard's Crawl on the other hand, excellent route though it is, would not be.
