What an incredible descent this is - my first major alpine route - at first we had to abseil into a crevasse to a snow bridge (Aug2004)felt very 'Touching the Void'Hadn't planned to do it but Rochers Rouge ascent was very loose. Brought back great memories - thanks!

Apparently the glacier has deteriorated quite a lot over the years - see my discussion with jon on this thread http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/t.php?t=377898&v=1#x5474106 (25 October onwards)

I think that the dryness or wetness of individual summers also makes a big difference. This section in late July 2008 had snow almost by the abseilers feet, whereas 2009 was quite a bit drier I think.

Yes, I suppose it could make a significant difference as this bit is a gully.
