brian cropper - 13/Oct/10
Hi Brian,I was never a smoker but I believe Bob was an Embassy man! The harness was made by Moac and was quite rare, they werent very good and we used to slide the webbing belt out of the chest harness and put them in a troll waist belt.Later on we added leg loops and I suppose that was the forunner of the modern harness.Martin.

Nice - Complete with hammer holster
Incredibly dangerous things - see http://www.ukclimbing.com/images/dbpage.html?id=141774
Converted to waist belt once I understood what would happen if I came off but never did. Or I probably wouldn't be writing this

Is that before 'the ramp' was created?

I don`t know what you mean by `the ramp` as I have`nt climbed at Avon for about 20 years but I think that I took this picture at the top of pitch 3 right of the Pink Wall.

Is that Bob Blessley, climbing, he sadly died very young? Looks like him. PS doesn't 'the ramp' mean the one on Unknown Buttress (it clearly isn't there in the photo)?

Yes,that`s him.

The ramp appeared sometime in the 1970s (Upper Wall described as recently created in 1992 guidebook).

Photo compares quite well to Think Pink shot in 1992 book (opp. p.112), which clearly shows the ramp (& shelf at 2/3 height).
