We were climbing in the Langtang valley and I was at base camp with Will Barker and Jackie Anthoine. Mo and Malcolm Howells were looking for a site for camp one when there was an earthquake ! It was just post monsoon so you can imagine what was shook loose. The photo did not scan very well but it was about five miles away and would have buried a small village. Meantime Mo and Malcolm were in the only secure spot on their route and watched horrified as an enormous river of snow, ice, mud and rock flowed just beneath them. It was a close call ! We completed our climb with no further problems.
On return to the UK I moved to Canada and gave up serious climbing. There were many reasons for this, but this incident was certainly a contributing factor.

Stunning. Words & picture combine to give a genuine sense of the danger & majesty of mountains. Thank you -made my day
Which mountain were you on, boje? I trekked a long way up the valley some years ago just to look around. Some very impressive looking peaks about there.
hello ian again wonderfull history. you might have given up hard rock but you still love the great out doors hope you still have one or two years left in you regards brian
Thanks for the comments guys.
Karl, the mountain was past the cheese factory at the very top of the valley and must have been close to the Chinese border - it must have had a name but we never got to know it. We had a trekking permit and just selected a peak that looked suitable and climbed it.
