Many major peaks have a summit cross, this steel and granite beauty on the Stralhorn (Switzerland) is the prettiest i've seen so far.
At the top is the Monte Rosa group, the Matterhorn is just right of the cross. Clockwise from there are the Dent Blanche, Obergabelhorn, Zinalrothorn and Weisshorn. Immediately behind my climbing partner Grayden is the Rimpfischhorn, with the Dom and Alphubel behind.
To make a little planet like this, I take a series of photos to make a flat panorama, stitch them together (ptGUI) and then bend it around on itself in Photoshop (resize to 1:1 ratio, rotate 180, then polar coordinates filter). After that, a straight down shot fills in the middle. This one took more effort than most to get cross just as I wanted it. There are a few of these on display at Outside in Hathersage if you want to see the full detail.

Really stunning as always - how do you get the sun looking like that? (small centre with stylish rays) I'm using a decent lens and UV filter but so far only manage to get a big white blob!

Best little planet photos I've seen. Usually find them a bit quirky but this is awesome.

Thankyou. To get 'sun stars', reduce the aperture size. Usually f/16 or smaller, although I think this one was around f/13. The lens you use will determine the number of points you get. In this one, I underexposed the sun, then adjusted it to fit the panorama.

I don't remember a cross on top but then it was 40yrs ago!
