Don't lower your belay device down with your bag before you prepare to abseil yourself ...
Tired and dehydrated at 4000m I started to make mistakes whilst soloing. Lowering my belay device and screwgate down with my bag, in preparation for abseiling myself being a major one.
Yes that is a do'fer harness made out of a 120cm sling and a snapgate 'biner - as 'best practice' goes, this isn't it.
