A memorable edition; with contributions from Tom Weir, W H Murray, Peter Crew, W A Poucher and Dennis Grey and a Ken Wilson interview with Chris Bonington. British climbing was getting major media attention, where the previous summer live TV broadcasts from the Old Man of Hoy had made several climbers media celebrities. I don't think we've ever really seen the like since the halcyon days of the late sixties.

Yes, Joe Public remembered The Old Man of Hoy for years. It really stood out as a media phenomenon.

What was the article by Pete about?
Al Evans - 21/Oct/13
Hi Al......Pete Crew had written a short article entitled A Closer Look at the Old Man of Hoy. Mainly route descriptions of those done on the televised broadcast the previous year.
He finished by saying.." For those who prefer less sullied climbs, the nearby sea cliffs of St John's Head are recommended- 1200 feet of vertical sandstone with enough possible lines to keep anyone happy for a lifetime".
And I think you know quite a bit of the story after that...
