Memory is vague but believe we had gone over from CC Hut in Llanberis to attempt a second ascent of a Brown route on Cloggie

Hi, I think it's Diglyph - not sure if anyone else can confirm?

Rick
Very many thanks Rick. This confirms what I thought and I am now fairly sure this is the second ascent of the climb and Hughie used a borrowed handkerchief to dry the critical foothold. Anyone know the date? Alan Coverdale

My first hazy thought was Pigott's, but I think Rick has it right. Diglyph makes much more sense

Diglyph certainly comes to mind, but after fifty years I could be mistaken.

Many thanks for the comments "bootsie" After nearly 60years I can remember the day. I walked over from Llanberis in nailed boots because I thought it would be too wet to climb in sandshoes and found the chimney underneath very hard in nails.

Definitely Diglyph - compare the picture in The Black Cliff on p 59. According to the same book on page 90 Hugh B did indeed make the second ascent of Diglyph (at the second attempt) in summer 1956. I'm impressed HB could dry the crucial hold using only a handkerchief; my impression (admittedly in October) was that an industrial dehumidifier would have been necessary to achieve much in that direction.

Very many thanks John. I did not know Hughie had made a previous attempt but Summer 1956 ties in with my memories. Hughie was in the usual sandshoes and moved up,then came down to borrow a handkerchief, moved up againand dried the hold then did the climb.
