About a dozen routes were climbed here in the 1980's but it looks like the place has been left well alone since then. There is actually some reasonable-looking rock in places. It could be resurrected but being in the Eden Valley and close to the Lakes has probably sealed its fate. However, if you like wild garlic this could be just the place for you?

We did Summer Bird and In through the Out Door when we visited about 14 years ago, looks like the place hasn't changed much since then. Some good adventure climbing! Some of the routes can be found in the Stew Wilson guide.

Hi Pete. I only got my 1992 'North of England' guide after moving away from the area but I do recall going there before then. I know that Stew and Maggie Wilson sometimes used to 'point' interesting venues out to me. I first bumped into Stew down at Armathwaite when he was instructing a group. I've just looked at a scribbled entry in the back pages of my very battered 1979 NoE guide:
'Possible crag Otter Stones NY 554 239 limestone up to 30+' - vegetated, 5 - 6 routes?'. I do vaguely recall that Stew mentioned the place to me. I wrote that some time in the summer of 1986 but never actually climbed anything there. Cheers, Karl.

I remember 8yrs ago or so I used to pop down here after work every decent day to clean up one of the large boulders and potter about on some traverses, was looking promising, then moved away. Seems as though it has stayed untouched, I still believe the guidebook in that it shows promise. Just needs to see some action....
