Taken just past midnight on Longridge Fell, Lancashire.
I think this is one of my favourite night shots as despite appearances there was very little post processing done. The orange glow to the right of the tree is light pollution from Blackburn and surrounding built up areas. The light trail was achieved with a handheld blue LED torch and some careful waving.
This particular evening there was a new moon making the stars appear brighter despite been so close to Blackburn.

Yes this is ace, its a 5 from me and many others I would hope. Did I recently see this in Lancashire Walks & Wildlife magazine, I've definitely seen it in print somewhere, or was it Lancashire Life? Also the torch waving is very skilfully done, how many takes if you don't mind me asking?

Thanks very much Mark, very kind. Yes it was this months front cover of Lancashire Life. I tried the torch 4 times, though ended up using my first attempt.

Really good and original shot. I photograph a lot on the Coronation Plantation in Wicklow - a very similar location - and am always looking for new ideas so thanks for the inspiration.

Fantastic shot, amazing sky. I actually find the blue LED light distracting and i don't think it adds to the photo overall. Still a 5 from me tho!

I agree with mac. Good photos don't need gimmicks (just my opinion...). At least there are no star trails.

Great work! I think i'll head out one crisp clear night and see what I can catch of lancashire's night sky. IMHO you can look at the torch trails either way. but if you were to remove them, or not do them at all, I think you'd need to crop the tree closer to the foreground making it a 5 x7 ratio instead (is it currently 16 x 10?)
