What a route. If that is pitch 3, the ice was about 1000mm thicker in 1986. Which would make it thinner and steeper to climb now. All the OW was covered and the best line probably about 2 metres further left. Vaguely recall a runner at the base of a metre wide R facing corner, probably at the base of the OW just out of shot. Seen one or two pics at the time showing the same conditions and line as Martin and I enjoyed. Best VI on the Ben?

Zooming in, I think you missed a peg runner near where I got a wire, just below a small roof, low down left of the OW.

There is indeed a rusty peg over there. Not worth clipping but a good ice screw at the start anyway. One of the best routes i have done on the ben.

We climbed smear to the left of the flake, presumed this was Gemini in 1988, good rock gear in the flake and picks hitting rock, the fatter smear to the right was there, we didn't think to climb that.
