On a trip to the Lofoten Islands back in 2016 we spent one day out on Kistbergtinden, a coastal hill popular with ski-touring parties. As we skinned towards the summit, initially calm conditions quickly gave way to ferocious winds, to the point where just standing upright was a difficult task. Coming from Scotland, we were all no stranger to wild conditions like this, however we decided that there wasn’t much fun to be had in pushing on further. As we began taking off our skins and preparing for the descent, a group of Norwegians who had been just ahead of us began to descend as well. They had their dog out with them, who was clearly struggling in the high winds. The owner, noticing this, calmly scooped the mildly panicked looking animal up in her arms before continuing her ski descent down the hill. All a bit more exciting than your average dog walk down the park!
