Taken when the sun was partially eclipsed, a short while before Boxing Day's full annular eclipse. I have some nice photos of the eclipse, but they would be probably be stretching the mountain theme a bit too far..........

Really quite a special shot. Brings back many happy memories of camping in such spots with my wife and (at the time) 2-year-old daughter when I lived in Oman....we'd drive down the coast to Masirah and make a couple of stops en route. Thanks for sharing such a sublime reminder of the beauty of those spots

Yes, amazing country! Was that before the new highway was built down this stretch of coast? A friend who lived in Oman more than 20 years ago talks of largely just driving down the beaches! I'd planned to return for this eclipse ever since my first visit 5 years ago. We took two days off climbing for the 700 mile round trip to the coast - it should have been 250 less but we somehow missed our turning off the new inland highway across the desert and it was quite a long way to the next one!

What a set. Must have been one hell of a trip.

Gorgeous light and pastel shades give this image a special quality. I know it's not strictly climbing but well worth seeing. Lovely!

I was in Oman for 3 years forty years ago. There were almost no tarmac roads in those days, so it was even quite a journey to those sands, which we used to call the Wahiba Sands.
