After a reported sighting of a Snowy Owl on Ben Macdui in Feb 2013, it took 6 weeks before I found myself skiing over the plateau more in hope than expectation that the bird might still be in residence. In perfect weather it was quickly located sitting prominently on high rocks overlooking Garbh Uisge Beag where it appeared as if it was patiently waiting for me.
A special encounter with an occasional visitor from the high Arctic which very rarely is seen on the high tops.

Well done Al, lucky you. There was an escapee Snowy Owl in the northern Rhinogydd all summer long, two years ago. Magnificent bird by all accounts - no idea what became of it.

There was a snowy owl resident for a number of years at Mangerta on Lewis too. I saw it a few days in summer 2011 while climbing there.

There’s been a resident one on St Kilda now for over a year. Also in the past 2 years one turned up in N Uist and another not far from Helmsdale

Fantastic Al and definitely a special sighting for anyone who is lucky enough to see one in such surroundings.
