A rare sight today, but common in the 1950's and 60's were climbers leading routes up to HVS, wearing mountain boots. Looking back on those days I believe the skills we learnt from climbing in boots and the importance of good footwork has proved so useful even today.
Chris is still a solid performer on both rock and ice, his main passion is Alpine routes where he has a long and impressive CV.

Brilliant.
I like the way the single rope loop around the waist acts as harness, trouser belt and gear carrier.
Two slings with drilled out nuts.
"Armed for bear " in 64.
I remember these photos from the CMC slide shows. Is there also some shots doing these routes on wet days in socks?

Hi Rick, thanks for your comments.
I posted some shots of Genesis / Anarchist in the wet a couple of years ago...Ken used to enjoy doing them running with water. Good memories.

Is this the Chris Wood all who was my teacher at Laurence Jackson school Guisborough? Got me into climbing nearly 50 years ago! Lovely man!

Hi, yes it is the very same person. Chris is still active but not climbing much at this moment due to a shoulder injury.
Best Regards,
Tony
