This isn't Southern Sandstone, this is trad rock climbing territory. Second lot of photos with people top-roping the Sentinel (a safe lead if you're skilled and patient placing wires). Safe it for the lead next time, eh.

So sorry mate, I'm an unskilled new climber and didn't realise top-roping was illegal (not that I was able to climb it myself even with a top-rope).

Mate top roping isn't illegal but in my experience leading a route is far more exciting and memorable. If you're up in the Peak and want a hand with placing gear/general leading I'd be more than happy to show you any basics as would many other people.

The only problem I have with top roping is when a group come along and all 30 of them top-rope the same route hogging it for the entire afternoon and getting it all polished.

Matt, thanks for the offer mate and I'm attempting to do just that (if only in a small way initially) with the fellas I climb with. Must admit in my experience Fiend is the exception rather than the rule.
