To make these: Take enough shots for a 360 degree panorama. Then merge them into a full panorama using photoshop (manually) or better, a dedicated stitcher such as PTGUI. Then you bend the panorama around until it joins. (in PS you stretch the image so it has a 1:1 size ratio, turn it upside down, and then apply the polar coordinates filter). Then fill in the hole in the middle using a straight down shot.
