Started rock climbing after my 3 daughters treated me to an indoor course at Manchester Climbing Centre June 08 and 3 months later did a one day outdoor course with them.Since then I have been very hit and miss.I have devoted myself to self teach things like ropes, anchors and other technical stuff.Am a bit determined to clean up what I can of 2 local quarries on Holcombe Hill ie Harcles and Peel and get round to places like Wilton ,Brownstones and Cadshaw this summer (09).Basically still a novice who would probably benefit from partners .One problem I have is that I look mid forties and am quite fit ,so there is a bit of a perception /reality gap around wnat folks can expect of me .Goals -to gain more competence on every front -technical and climbing skills .Maybe to be climbing E1 6b by 65
Well things have moved on by Aug09.Have joined a really good club ,Mountaineering Club of Bury, done quite a lot of climbing(twice weekly),indoors and out-Dovestones ,Troy,Denham,Cadshaw,Wiltonand seconding at HVS5.glad to have got first lead under my belt. And also grateful of the general friendliness, humour and helpfulness of the climbing community.
My progress has surprised me knowing that E1 5a is arealistic goal outdoors and 6a in
