The first part of having good footwork is making sure you've got the correct fitting shoes. This video highlights what happens with baggy shoes and the difference correct fitting shoes makes. Make sure your toes are at the end of the shoe and that they are slightly bent - this will give you more power through the big toe. Also, make sure there isn't excess material, or a baggy nature once the foot is in. "Fits like a glove" should spring to mind.
