No idea about gear hire, but Google maps says it's only 5km so I imagine a taxi up the hill and a walk back down would be cheap enough, and a walk/bike up the hill wouldn't take too long.
There is a bus service in season that stops at the big parking at the top. The route is so popular with people heading out to Formentor I would imagine you could thumb a lift up from Pollensa. You could also rent an e-bike. I don't know of any rental shops, we've always taken our own gear.
