Kalymnos advice

A small group from our club are thinking of heading to Kalymnos this autumn - probably October.

I'm pretty sure October is a good month weather-wise, but the crags might be crowded. Does anyone know when (if) the Kalymnos climbing festival is on this year, and whether it's best to avoid that week (too crowded?) or perhaps good to go that week (for the "buzz"?). Some of our party might be looking for warm sea to swim in, so later in the autumn might be less good.

I've been twice before, around 20 years ago in late October, which was good climbing but cool sea, and around 10 years ago in mid-September, which was rather too hot for climbing, but perfect for swimming.

Many thanks for any advice.

Martin

In reply to Martin Hore:

In the last 10 years, the number of routes has probably doubled - in all grades. If you leave out the "in crags" (the most classic ones, plus a few of th very new ones - last year everyone wanted to go to Griffig), you'll probably find enough space or even empty crags most time of the year.

Also, several of the new crags provide afternoon shade, thus time of the year is not as important as it was.
