I’m heading to Rocklands from Cape Town next summer. Anyone got any good recommendations for car hire companies (preferably one that doesn’t mind their cars being driven dirt roads!) and cheap! Also suggested accommodation. Last time I went (about 20 years ago) we camped which was okay but bloody freezing at night. This time I’m going with the family so a bit more comfort could be good.
In reply to Joint:we stayed at depakhuys camp site in a bungalow I think. It was cheap but not the nicest place we stayed in the cederberg. I think we just went with the cheapest car hire place online. Our car got absolutely caked in mud and the car hire place were fine about it. I think a 4x4 would be better - I didn’t feel great on some of the roads as they’re not all properly surfaced and there were tons of potholes.
Not recently and mostly not for bouldering. We generally drove round for the day from the camping at Kromrivier, but there used to be a campsite at the top of the Pakhuis pass.
