John Rushby

"If everyone thought the way I did - I would be a fool not to."......

I like nothing better than to sit back, put on a DVD of 80's climbing fashions and relax with a nice glass of Cillit Bang, lost in the purple fug of Troll Jesters and those pink We Went Climbing T shirts.

In fact, a couple of days ago I found a rip in the space time continuum and using this wormhole in space I regularly nip to and from 7th century East Anglia, 1930's Berlin and a week last Tuesday. I do all this whilst accompanied by a tapir called Colin and pangolin named Barry. We used to have a coypu called Jenny but she was eaten by a viking in Aldeburgh.

I am a good friend of Stilton Cheesewright, inventor of the left handed mallion and Hoxton Singlespeed, formerly of HMP Pentonville and now the Bishop of Worcester.

Best Climbing Experience
I hope it is yet to come but it ranges from epics like the mental storm that caught us on the North East Buttress, to long lazy summer evenings up at Rylstone, cold, sharp gritstone days up on Higgar Tor to hunkering down for 3 days sleeping out a storm while solo on Chopiqualci.

Favourite Climbing-Related Discussion Topic
Mostly esoteric Alpine routes in places nobody has ever heard of or just long chats in pubs about the rich history of climbing. It is much more fun to waffle on about the importance of climbers like Robin Smith, Colin Kirkus, Bill Tilman and Pete Livesey than whether Much Fumbling on the Wolds gets 8c or 9a.

Interests Outside Climbing
I have an increasing collection of bikes and have been doing a lot of racing and training over the last couple of years, racing in various crits, 3 Days of Wessex, 5 days around Mont Blanc. The mountain bike is getting used more and more.

Middle eastern politics, general history and trying to learn Farsi and French but not realy succeeding.

and my lost cause - a season ticket at Bradford City.

About My Photography
I used to use an OM10 with my own dark room but have not used a SLR in anger for over 15 years. So, I spunked me some cash and got one of the new G1 micro DSLR ad I a re-learning. Must admit, I am really enjoying it and prefer to concentrate on composition than post piccie editing. I have a liking for sport, architecture and more challenging landscape. Mind you, most of it is shite.

Anything Else We Should Know
All badgers are left handed, dogs can't look up and life is just a game and there are many ways to play and all you do is choose.

Life is always shades of grey and it happens while you are making plans, which never survive first contact anyway.

Sometimes, good men do bad things.
