I'm trying to encourage UKC to add Lead Rope Solo to the 'style' entry on logbooks.

Should Lead Rope Solo be added to the 'style' section on UKC/Rockfax logbook entries?

Yes. It is a legitimate style of climbing
No.....

'BNM'? Short for Billy-no-mates ascent

A 'did not start' style option is what I feel it's lacking.

In reply to BARNEYHIGHROPES:

It's just a form of leading. I log it as lead with a partner called "rope solo". Sometimes "rope solo" and I do top roping together too

In reply to Suncream:

Ultimately it doesn't really matter but...It's a very different experience to having another person on the end of the rope though. I think different enough to warrant a different entry.

Sure, and it's a very different experience using a Silent Partner versus a pair of clove hitches. I've done both, and logged them as lead. At some point you just need to use the notes to store the details, we can't have a "style of ascent" for every variation.

Cf. Yo-yo versus ground-up (not distinguished in the logbook)

I don't think the word 'style' should apply to anything I do.

In reply to Suncream:

True, but it's only a simple drop down menu, wouldn't be hard to add several extra types of ascent. I suspect the number of people climbing in these different styles would be fairly small anyway.

In reply to Lankyman: Hahaha you're not far off the truth! I've been doing it almost exclusively for about 2 years now. It really started because I moved to a new area and shortly after had my first child leaving practically zero time for socialising and making new friends let alone friends that climb! I really enjoy it and it's allowed me complete freedom without the partner politics that can often come with climbing as a pair. Sure I miss the comradeship but if nothing else it gets me that precious 'me time' out of the house. I could go on all day about the ways I love it but..... please climb with me 💋
