What about a Rab VR trail (£70 from Tower-ridge) or a Mountain Hardwear Tempest SL (approx £110 but available for approx £70 in the sales frequently)

My experience of soft shells witha membrane is that they have no advatages over a hard shell (and several disadvantages)

they won't dry quickly once wet! You will still get wet from sweat, they leak water, etc etc etc
