Once tied you can pop a couple of light stitches in to keep the knot from ever coming undone - very retro. These are not anywhere as strong as sewn slings.

If you use a water knot, make sure you leave long tails, weight the sling before use and inspect regularly. Better to use sewn slings, if appropriate.

In reply to fra5911: tape knott: overhand knott in one end leave loose, thread the other end through the same pattern as the firest (as done with a figure 8)

They are plenty strong enough for a more-or-less static load. Just be aware that they will be repeatedly loaded and unloaded in this situation, and it *is* possible for them to work loose. You can minimise the risk by inspecting them every time you use them, and not making them a single point of failure.

A tape knot, but I suspect this is another word for water knot... perfectly safe and unlike stitching it can't fray.
