Kenton Cool, one of the UK's top mountaineers, will be recounting his breathtaking experiences leading veteran polar explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes up the notorious North face of the Eiger earlier this year.
‘Cool Ascents’ is on at the Royal Geographical Society on Thursday 29th November at 7pm, illustrated with photos and video. The presentation is in aid of Porters’ Progress UK, a charity dedicated to improving the lives of porters in the Himalayas and other mountain ranges.
"Kenton Cool is the finest and at times the bossiest mountain guides I've ever had the pleasure to sleep with on a three foot ledge” Sir Ranulph Fiennes.
Six weeks after the successful Eiger ascent the unstoppable Cool was standing on the summit of Everest… twice within seven days! Come and hear about his outrageous escapades on and off the mountain.
Tickets are £10 with full proceeds to Porters Progress UK.
Tickets available from www.worldexpeditions.com or send a cheque payable to Porters Progress UK, 81 Craven Gardens, Wimbledon, SW19 8LU. Tel enquiries to 0800 074 4135
This event is sponsored by Mountain Hardwear, Cotswold Outdoor & World Expeditions.
**SUNGLASSES AMNESTY**
Aside from the impact of cold weather at high altitude, Himalayan porters, like all trekkers, are at risk of snow blindness. This painful condition is caused by extreme UV levels which kill the outer cells of the eyeball, leading to blindness. Such problems can be easily avoided by wearing effective sunglasses which filter UVA and UVB radiation. We hope to collect 1000 pairs of sunglasses before the start of next year's trekking season so please bring along any old pairs of sunglases to the show with you (Category 3) and help us reach our target.
