I recently moved to Freidrichshafen, Bodensee, south Germany. Great for mountain access but I have yet to find a local Mountaineering shop.

Anyone lived in the area or know of a local shop. Zurich maybe a possibility, but that is 90min away, or Stuttgart but that is further
In reply to stevev: For one weekend a year they probaly have the best selection of climbing gear in the world

In reply to stevev: Top links, thanks for that lot

On a slightly different theme are there online UK companies that deliver EU wide without big penalties

Yep, a great set of links.
No 1. Trade only exhibition.
No 2. Climbing wall manufacturer.
No 3. A climbing forum (possibly useful if you can read and write German).
No 4. Probably three of the worst and most expensive online shops in Germany.

You will find the next decent sized town is Lindau, 27km down the coast. There are loads of outdoor shops there.
Lindau is in the Allgau region and you can click on this link and then check each of the over 50 outdoor/mountaineering shops listed here. http://www.dein-allgaeu.de/berge/berge_ausstatter.html

Or go down the climbing wall and ask! http://www.suka-fn.de/content/htmls/klz_daten.html

I know Lindau. We went there last week, but we only saw the Annual street market, I will check that place out

There an fairly ok outdoor / climbing shop on Hauptstrasse which is the road that runs between uhlderlingen and miminhausen/salem( just up the road along the lake.

Not far away maybe 20-30mins by car

Cheers

You need to click on "online shop"!! (i.e. http://www.klettershop.de/)

Your right, I have klettershop.de as a seperate favourite on my computer as I´ve used them once or twice, never went into them via their main website!

I've used bergfreunde.de and rocksports.de which are both very good. Don't expect free postage anywhere in germany though, and double-check for uk makes that things are not actually cheaper in the uk. I've seen ME sleeping bags sold here for 480 euros while I could get them for just over 300 out of the UK.
i've ordered a few things from the uk too and postage isn't really that much. There are some shops who outright refuse to sell stuff abroad, but I've only had good experiences with the people from needlesports, alpkit and a few others.
