Have footwear prices gone through the roof of late? I was looking to get some stiff walking boots for winter walking (not for me) and popped in to Fort William's Nevis Sport. The cheapest thing they could offer was £159 which is way too much for an occasional walk in the hills through winter. It may just be lack of selection as all they suggested were two types of Scrapa. My previous pair (leather Sportivas) which I cannot seem to get any more were 110 I think about 5 years ago so have prices jumped 50% in that time? My current pair are Scarpa SL's and too heavy duty I think for just an occassional walk.

What sort of price can you get crampon compatible boots for walking?

In reply to Graeme Seggie:

Manta M4s have a new model out so less than £100 for the old ones if you shop around (B2 rated).

Probably limited stock but worth a try.
I've got them and they seem great so far.

Great! Thanks for that. The only problem is my girlfriend has had loads of issues with blisters from boots so reluctant to go the online route. I'll have a look at what's available in the shops more thoroughly though.

In reply to Graeme Seggie: try in store, find a comfy pair that she likes then, buy online

I try not to do that, because it tends to put small, local specialists out of business.
