Does anyone have any knowledge of climbing in Northern Germany? I am based in Paderborn and the nearest decent crag we can find is nearly 3 hours away in the Harz Mountains, near Oker. I have heard rumours of stuff near Bad Meinburg and an old quarry in Lippstadt.

Any help (or pointers) would be massively well received. HELP!!!!!

Danke sehr!

In reply to eldre070: If you are in the Army, try getting hold of ATG(G) at Sennelager, they should have some information on climbing in the local area.

There are some really nice crags near Hameln - the Ith. Lovely outcrops. Kept me happy for my two years in Germany. Near the villages of Holzen, Marienau, Coppenbrugge. It's on the ridge with the airfield on top.

google 'ith klettern'

If you head the other way, there are some interesting puddingstone crags near Aachen, and a bit further gets you to Freyr, which is great for a weekend. I used to go to Freyr from mid-way between Hannover and Hamburg, so from Paderborn is quite a bit closer

Agreed! Ith has some nice climbing. I spent a week at Lüerdissen whilst travelling through Europe (definitely not the usual destination on the world tour but was visiting relatives in Hildesheim) before heading into France.
