So, yet another "what device for top roped soloing", but this time with a twist

From what I've read on here, the most common ascender used is the shunt.

I'm wondering though, is there a device I could use for both top rope soloing (on a 9.8mm rope) and use for simulclimbing easier mountain pitches (using 8.5 halves)?

Would the Wild country ropeman mk2 work for this?

How about the petzl mini traxion?

If you are simul climbing with halves, wouldn't that require two ascenders?

Just a thought.

WC ropeman is not recommended for self-belaying.

In reply to ola.b: top rope self belayed soloing is much better with a petzl basic ascender. if you weight the rope you don't have to stop and pull it up all the time like a shunt. not sure i'd use it for simul climbing though, bit heavy - ropeman is your best bet for that. i have used a ropeman to protect short top rope self belays when i didn't have my basic ascender with me, but as above, it's not recommended for that.
