Anyone got any views on this piece of kit before I place an order with Santa ?

I've wanted one for years, but near a hundred quid is holding me back.....

Who's for, who's against ?

In reply to paul walters: One for. They're great, and last for ages.

I love Buffalo kit. I've got the unlined Windshirt and the Pertex 6 Special 6. Both great, very tough. My mate has had his Mountain Shirt for ten years and it's starting to look a bit battered after many a winter on gritstone, but it's still going strong held together with packing tape.

One of the few items of clothing that look even better with duck tape on it

For the amount of use you'll get out of it it'll seem like a mega bargain. Got mine for 80 quid when I was 15, I have certainly had more than 80 quids worth of warm and happy out of it.

can not go too far wrong - had mine from '92-2004 before it finally
died and it got a lot of hammer. Have tried Gore-tex and now paramo
but still think excellent kit for UK use.
(and very tempted to get another)

I'm afraid I didn't like mine and passed it on to my mum. The velcro neck thing works okay on a Pertex Pile shirt, but I found it slow drying and just generally uncomfortable on a windproof.

I replaced it with a hooded Ventile windproof from Hilltrek, which I love, but if you prefer Pertex another option would be a Rab Alpine Pull on...

Had mine 10 years, amazing value.Get the detachable hood and mitts and it'll make most other gear redundant for winter climbing.

Oh just realised you mean the Pile and Pertex shirt.

They're great, you need a Buffalo Jacket to go with them for winter climbing though.

In reply to paul walters:

Never been a fan, although I know several people that are - I just didn't get on with the fit of the Buffalo.

That said, I've used various Pertex/fleece conbinations that are about equivalent, so the concept is fine.

I have a Montane Pertex Pile Extreme, so similar but may not be the same.

I find it great for Scottish Winter, wear it against the skin and its all I need, but too hot for summer Alpine - at lower altitudes you cook.
