I have an MSR Whisperlite, not the Whisperlite international.

What fuel does it burn? it says White Gas but i'm not sure what this is.

I've made the stove work with petrol but im not sure if its supposed to be used with it.

Cheers.

In reply to abberdam: Panel wipe is great. Burns hot and clean

In reply to ankyo: gotta agree, Colemans is (roughly!) just panel wipe packaged and badged with a 500% markup. You can get panel wipe at good automotive outlets.

Alpen 4t (lawnmower fuel) is also from the same petroleum fraction range as panel wipe and white gas and burns very well in the Whisperlite - again at a significantly lower price than Colemans.

In reply to abberdam: been using petrol in mine for years, no bother. just clean it regularly and keep the pump cup oiled.

Ethanol??

In reply to Skyhook: You can also use paint thinner. In S America this was the cleanest fuel we could find (petrol meant cleaning the stove daily).

Yes, paint thinner should work. I don't think Ethanol will.

It’s rumoured to be incompatible with the pump and seals.

In reply to Billy the fish:

Ah fair point, Ethanol does have a tendency to eat through certain types of rubber - it's a problem with biofuels too.
