Hard shell coats

Hello all,
All you might of guessed from other posts I'm spending cash like its going out of fashion at the momment (might not be good way to deal with a break up!) and it new coat time.
I want a coat I can climb in but spending a couple hundred quid on one means it needs to be able hike with a big ass bergan on my back and not wear out.
Am I right in assumning that an alpine esque coat would survive a bergan on my back for a while?

yes, any jacket you buy for a couple of hundered will easily take a big pack for a while. a few have reinforced shoulders.
for that kind of wear definitely look for a three layer fabric (pro shell, event 3 layer etc.) the 2 layer paclite type dont seem to take that particular kind of abuse too well.
