In reply to minus273degrees: What sort of club and what do you want to get out of it?

On the one hand there are clubs which are loose affiliations of people based around a social media type web site which allows people to co-ordinate climbs through to clubs with proper m&a, fees, organised training, gear library, etc.

In reply to another_mark: a mountaineering club it has mainly formed out of a group of graduates/students of the university of Hertfordshire we realised we couldn't rely on the university and more and would like a 'younger' club to become members of

What exactly do you need to know? Surely, you just think of a name for yourselves and draw up a basic constitution outlining rules and subs etc in the pub one night, then go climbing!

The BMC provide some guidelines here:

Have you had a look at the Hertfordshire Mountaineering Club? I guess you may have done if you climb at the Hatfield wall.

OK, so most (all?) of us are older than 20 but we're a friendly and active club. We've got official meets once a month and there have been members out climbing in the Peak for the last few weekends. There are also hillwalkers, bikers and mountaineers in the club so it's not just a rock climbing club.

Mail me if you would like more info (or check out the website).

All the best

Lots of clubs are formed by groups of individuals, think of the Rock and Ice, Alpha, Black and Tans, Creagh Ddu etc and they were not affiliated to anyone for years, if at all.
Do the same, and if you want more organisation join the local club and work as a small group inside it. Being a member means you are part of the BMC and can use some huts barred to you as individuals.

Isn't that up to you as members? It's not hard to affiliate your club to the BMC but there is certainly no requirement to do so.
