My compasses are now very stiff to turn, any advice on loosening them off? Thought I would ask before I take the lubricating spray to them, in case that's NOT the way to do it?
In reply to Moley: If they are Silva ones, they are normally pretty easy to dismantle, clean and re-assemble after potentially wiping them lightly with some type of lubricant. All you generally need to do is lever out the retaining spring at the back which can be done easily with a pair of tweezers.

+1, but be careful about the type of lubricant. Some lubricants can soften the plastic and make it stickier.

In reply to Hairy Pete: Any particular recommendation? Was thinking about KY jelly.

In reply to Moley: Thanks, they are Silva. First mend my specs then I can see to mend my compass.

A quick wipe and polish with some Pledge or similar before you put it back together is fine.
