The Welsh Climbing Championships: Saturday 10th November 2012

The Welsh Climbing Championships is back!

The event which is now in its forth year is returning to the impressive Rock UK Summit Centre.

Based just outside Cardiff, the centre boasts large and somewhat daunting walls of all angles to test even the most experienced climber.

Last years event saw over 100 competitors battle it out for the title and anticipation for this year is already high.

The format for this years competition will see climbers of all ages work their way through 3 qualifying routes of ascending difficulty, with the top 10 climbers of each category going to a semi final in the afternoon.

From here we shall take the top 5 to the grand final and the title!

The event is run in a fun and friendly environment and is aimed at giving both climbers new to competitions and the seasoned pro' a great day out. The centre offers ample space for spectators, so bring as many supporters as possible, the more the merrier.

Registration will open at 9am followed by a short briefing at 10am, after which the competition will begin. Those in youth E, D and C category will top rope all their routes, whilst the older groups will be expected to lead climb. All competitors will get just one attempt at each of the five routes, which will increase in difficulty.

A judge will score each ascent, with points being awarded for each hold used during the ascent.

The competition costs £15 to enter with all entrants receiving an event T-shirt, and if you're good enough to make top 3 in your category you'll get your hands on one of our infamous Welsh Climbing Championship trophies.

Refreshments and snacks will be available from the centre as is accommodation for anyone who is traveling greater distances. Please email Summit centre for availibility.

This competition is an OPEN event, meaning you do not have to be Welsh to enter…so get your self over that bridge!

Each category will climb three qualifying routes, Scores will then be reset, with the top 10 in each category then battling it for podium positions in a semi and then a final.

(In the event of a tie qualifying routes will be used for count back.)
