Aiguille du Midi - North face conditions

Hi

Anyone been in cham recently and know the condition on the midi north face

Sorry I am replying a bit late, but yes, I can say that cold and snowy may be the answer. I think you can get up all the sections since we could ski down them... The first guys of the winter climbed up but I haven't got their account for it. I can say that the skiing was not great but that's what you get for being overly keen and going there so early

Ice was thin but climbable in the longer steep section. The top ridge had some semi-open crevasses and precarious sugary snow, so I was happy to have skis on rather than crampons! Photos here:

In reply to Kris: Nice photos, and interesting to hear that the NF is being skiied so early. Out of interest do you know what the other NF routes are looking like for skiing (Mallory etc.)?

Mallory was not yet in condition, too many exposed rocks. Eugster and the Midi West couloir were the only ones last week. New snow is naturally needed now in order to ski though...
