Story on page 19 in today's Evening Standard of how a "man cheated death" by swimming in an avalanche on the Aiguille de Bionnassay. Worth checking out for the commute home, since it stars at least one member of the UKC parish. It also covers the mid service breakdown of the Mt Blanc cable car. I presume it is the Midi telepherique.

An excellent write up of the experience here: http://allyswinton.blogspot.co.uk/2013/05/swim-on-blanc.html#more

Ally, I'm exceedingly glad you're OK!

A great write up. A key word for me was 'wind' which was mentioned several times. The slide that killed Roger Payne and others last summer was also after unseasonal bad weather and high wind. It looks like windslab is now much more of an issue in summer and spring than it used to be.
