In reply to oaktree: Very clever but...<spoilsport>if he hadn't fallen off earlier on trying to show off, he wouldn't have had to take such a risk at the finish.</spoilsport> Reminds me of that snowboarder who lost Olympic gold by fluffing a totally unnecessary stunt on the final jump of a 'cross race. At least in this case the fall happened sufficiently far back for the rider to recover and win.
As is often said in F1: to finish first, first you have to finish. The occasional ridiculously skilled but slightly bonkers competitor certainly adds to the fun, though (eg Gilles Villeneuve).
