Mer de Glace access from the gondola
Please can someone describe the condition of the Mer De Glace from the bottom of the steps below the gondola- just by the ice cave. I'm thinking of taking my parents for a wander on the glacier but I haven't been on it lately, I'm wondering how straightforward the short section from the steps onto the flat ice will be.

In reply to JohnV: Walking on ice is kinda difficult without crampons but if you put on some spikies it should be easy enough.
