I have just bought a new pack, the ME summitrocket 40

I can attach ace axes to it but it does not use the bar that is on one of the loops so im guessing there is another way

The loops consist of 2 clip ones at the top of the daisy chains and 2 one loops that can be used with a larks foot all on elastic, one of the lower loops also has a bar with a notch in it.

I am sure i have seen axes attached using the bar but i couldn't find any photos or information on how this is done. seem to think that the hole on the head of the axes is involved to

here's a photo of the attachments on the from of the pack

anyone help?

In reply to punj:
The bar passes through the hole in the head of your ice axe (as long as there is one).

In reply to punj: i thought so but what is the notch on the bar for? is it maybe to centralize the axes somehow?

A Scot failing to spot a bottle opener???

In reply to punj: seriously??!

seems a strange addition to have on an ultra lightweight climbing pack! but then if the bar is there anyway it would kinda make sense...

missing that one will cost me sleep the night...maybe i'm not drinking enough?

In reply to punj: I think the original version came with two bottle openers but then they removed one for some reason. It was a nice pack but the lac of any pocket at all on the role top version and the idea that the back panel would fill with spin drift put me off. This link shows a photo of how it's done.

In reply to ColdWill: Thanks, also FYI the newest version of the pack, the one i have and is reviewed in your link has 2 Zips instead of a roll top, one of which goes to a top compartment that seems let constricted than the one on my old Arete 45

im very happy with it but ive not encountered any spindrift with it yet!

I think it only has one toggle because it is designed for technical axes that will curve into the middle of the bag. If you had old style loops on the bag, but no hammer or adze on a technical axe you could easily loose it.
