Is there any ice on the road over the Kirkstone Pass yet? Thinking of riding over on the road from Windermere on Sunday and thought it may be wise to check.

Nope. I live it the bottom of it (Ambleside side) and went over recently and it was fine.

Looking at the near future forecasts you should be fine.

In reply to GF: Doesn't that rather depend on the weather between now and then? The road up Coverdale from Leyburn was apparently lethal on Sunday - but it'll be ok now as it's not been frosty. A mate (Mr Tall Clare, in fact) fell off on ice in Baildon - but it'll be fine tonight. I don't think Kirkstone has a permanent ice-field (not most winters, anyway...).

Apparently the Kirkstone glacier is advancing after many years if retreat.
