OK. So every year I tell myself I'm going to do something impressive in terms of fitness/endurance, and I never do!
So, I'm thinking that if I register for the Etape, I'll probably get off my fat ass and train!!
anyone else planning on riding it? do I actually stand any chance of getting to the end, or do I have to suffer the indignity of the sweep vehicle!?
The etape is probably sold out now. I am going, for the first time. My entry was a rather cool birthday present from a mate. Really looking forward to it and it gives me an excuse to upgrade my bike
I have done it the last two years, and even though I am not a quick rider (7 hrs last year) that was ok to be allowed to finish. It's worth the entry fee for the enjoyment of taking part in a closed roads event - not often you can ride on some of the narrow country lanes being relatively confident there won't be cars round each bend. Also plenty of feed stations with good food and drinks.
Rode it last year and it was great - well worth £59 to get empty roads and signage and the chance to ride among so many others. Will ride it again this year and also entered the Scottish one - Etape Caledonia. May even do Pennines - not sure yet.
