I am looking for Big Wall gear for a trip to Yosemite next year, I was hoping if anyone could help me with Portaledges? Makes, good advice etc?

Runout customs.

Basically they're significantly lighter than the Metolius (double) which is in turn significantly lighter than the BD (double).

You'll need a fly. The BD has two options in that department, standard and expedition.

Other options include sourcing a North Face/A5 ledge used but these are essentially the same design as the Runout ledges. Drop Luke a message and I'm sure he'll answer anything you need to know (we had ours delivered to the YOSAR camp).

Oh - I forgot Fish. I had zero luck buying any Fish equipment, maybe my messages went into the spam folder or something!

I have a metolius double. Works as advertised. Only features I'd majorly want in addition to it would be:
- long side poles breaking into three pieces instead of two
- lighter weight

Those are both desired out of transportation issues. Be it on my back or on planes and buses.

Paul B: Wat? Sorry bout that... our mail system is rubbish and we have moved everything over to Gmail in hopes of actually getting some of our mail.

Hi David!

Didn't buy a Fish ledge but Russ mailed my haul bag, ladder aiders, daisys and a bunch of other stuff direct to Yosemite for me - A1 service, can't fault it!

I have a BD double and a Fish Econoledge. I had the fish Econoledge delivered to Yosemite post office (we bought it as a one off as were climbing as a three that year).

If I were to buy a double again, I would buy an all singing all dancing deluxe fish ledge that comes with the rainfly. Lighter, cheaper and much easier to set up.

No worries, although I'd have preferred to haemorrhage some of my cash (6 month trip) in the direction of Fish rather than where I ended up buying certain items (I'm not talking about Runout here).

Next time (still fancy some kit and need replacement daisies)? After all, we weren't overly successful on the big stone itself, Brits + August temperatures simply didn't mix!
