Recycling old helmets

Ok, maybe this could or should be in the 'Gear' forum, but the question remains - does anyone have any ideas for meaningfully recycling old climbing and ski helmets? I've accumulated a couple. The climbing helmet is still functional for protection, it's just heavy (grp), worn and uncomfortable, the ski helmet I'm not so sure about (the outer-shell is delaminating from the high density foam inner).

I'm after ideas, as I've drawn a blank myself - other than the trivial like 'hanging basket'!
I'm struck by how difficult it is to repurpose or recycle complex composite items like PPE - once again we make things with no idea of what to do with them at their end of life... :-/

PP.

Stick it in the recycling bin and move on....next.

how about a scarecrow head?

or a melon protector for taking melons on knarly adventures?

could use it as a novelty light shade.

put it on a shelf or hang it on a wall and draw on it. pretend its some form of 'art'.

hope that helps!

turn them upside down, fill with compost and plant some crocus bulbs

I like the hanging basket idea! Might plant some tomatoes in my old helmet this year, at the moment it's just sat in the garage getting dusty.
